Dear Family and Friends,
First I want to thank every single one of you for the generous prayer and financial support you have given me over the past four years. I cannot describe how much the encouragement I have received from all of you has blessed me.
I am writing all of you to let you know about a wonderful opportunity I have to move into the next level of mission work. This year I am doing something completely and totally different. I was contacted by a dear friend at my church towards the end of 2007 with an amazing opportunity.
I have been invited to participate in a one year (or possibly even longer) internship at a baby orphanage in Uganda. I will be working with the very first and largest orphanage in Uganda called Welcome Home Africa Ministries. This is a wonderful place that will offer me a wide variety of ministries. For example I will be working with the children and doing everything I possibly can to meet their needs, but I will also be teaching English to not only the kids but also to many of the staff within the orphanage. I will be working within the African court systems with adoptions, I will also be boating up the Nile to reach villages hosting Vacation Bible Schools and ministering to many of the adults as well. There are so many more opportunities that this internship has for me and I am so excited to experience every single part of it!
I will be living not too from the orphanage in my own quarters. I will most likely ride a bike or walk to get to the orphanage every day. I will also be attending a local Ugandan church every Sunday. This being said there is of course some costs to this internship. For all of the potential costs (room, meals, and some spending money) it is safe to say that I will need around $600 to $650 monthly. Though this price could change once I see how much I will actually need while I am there. For now we will say that for an entire year (plane tickets and possible emergencies included) I will need to raise somewhere around $10, 000.
I am going to ask that before you decide to commit financially that you pray about it and possibly see if the Lord would lead you to give monthly. I know that for some of you this may be a stretch and obviously I do not want anyone feeling that they must give out of obligation. But I would ask that you seek God's heart on this issue.
I have learned over the past year and a half how vital prayer is, and that is why I am asking for complete prayer coverage while I am in Uganda. Seeing that there is a possibility for there to be some unrest in the area I am headed and that I am bound to have some children with severe life and death health problems at the orphanage. This will be the first time moving out of my house, let alone living overseas by myself, I cannot express how crucial prayer will be for me this coming year. So I am asking, above everything else, if you do feel called to support me at all, do it with prayer.
Also if you would like updates while I am on the field, we are going to put together an e-mail list so that I can send all of you updates and prayer needs as they come. Please contact us at furmaneks@cox.net to sign up for the e-mail list.
If you would like more information about the orphanage you can visit Welcome Home’s web site at www.welcomehomeafrica.com. On this web site you can find wonderful pictures, videos, and more information on what God is doing in Uganda. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me at furmaneks@cox.net.
I want to thank all of you ahead of time for participating in reaching the children of Uganda with the love of Jesus Christ. I will stand strong in believing that this internship will forever change my life, and hopefully I will be privileged enough to change the life of others as well. Thank you for making all of this possible, may God bless you abundantly.
Consumed by Him,
Lindsay Furmanek
